South Padre Island continues to deliver excellent fishing action this week! Anglers are reeling in an impressive variety of species, making it one of the top fishing destinations along the Texas coast. What’s biting?
Redfish and trout are the stars of the show, with plenty of catches reported in the shallow bays and around the island’s inlets. Speckled trout are biting steadily on live shrimp and small soft plastics, especially during early mornings and late afternoons. Redfish are also showing strong numbers near the marsh edges and oyster beds. Tips for success:Use light tackle for the inshore trout and redfish to improve hook sets and increase fight fun.Live shrimp and croaker are top baits right now.Early mornings and late evenings are peak feeding times. Stay updated on tides—fishing is best on moving tides near the island.Whether you prefer inshore flats or offshore reefs, South Padre Island offers something for every angler. The warm Gulf waters are creating perfect conditions, so it’s a great time to plan your next fishing trip here.

Top Tips and Hotspots for Reeling in Big Catches on South Padre Island

We got an early start, meeting at 211 W Swordfish St at 7 AM to get rigged up and on the water. With our light tackle and baitcasting setups, we spent the day drifting and working the flats, targeting the prime feeding grounds. It didn't take long before the action heated up, and Nick was hooked into a nice Spotted Seatrout. He fought it hard, and we had it in the boat in no time. As we continued working the area, the bites kept coming, and we put a few more Trout in the cooler.

The bite stayed consistent throughout the day, with enough action to keep us engaged but not so frantic that we couldn't enjoy the beautiful South Texas scenery. Between catches, we had a chance to take in the sights and sounds of the Lower Laguna Madre—the birds feeding, the gentle lapping of the waves, and the stunning backdrop of the coastal wetlands. It was the perfect blend of great fishing and relaxing time on the water.

If you're looking to experience the incredible inshore fishing that South Padre Island has to offer, I can't recommend STX Bay Adventures enough. Their 6-hour private fishing trips are the perfect way to target trophy Redfish, Flounder, and of course, Spotted Seatrout.
